For centuries, Detroit has been an important Michigan city. In studying its history, we learn about Huron, Ottawa, and Ojibwe tribes, French settlers, the War of 1812, the Underground Railroad, industrialization, bootlegging, social injustice, and much more.
Today, Detroit is enjoying a renaissance. Home to many cultural venues and historical sites, it’s a wonderful place to visit. As the metropolis of Detroit covers a vast geographical area, all sites are certainly not within walking distance, but that shouldn’t stop you from heading out on foot. Today’s virtual voyage will take you on a walking tour of Rivertown Detroit. Through photographs, we will visit important sites from the river down Woodward Avenue to Campus Martius and back towards the river on Griswold. This rectangular strip of downtown Detroit provides many interesting things to see and do.
I hope you enjoy the trip. Welcome to Detroit!
